AmeriCorps South Alabama Emergency Response Team

AmeriCorps is a National Service program that provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with education awards in exchange for a year or two of community service. AmeriCorps members help meet the nation's critical needs in the areas of public safety, education, human needs, and the environment. In order to meet the specific needs of their communities, programs recruit and train individuals who are willing to devote at least a year to serving as AmeriCorps members.

Emergency Response Team

In 2004, the U.S. Government declared 68 major disasters in response to hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and flooding. In the past decade, there have been nearly 600 Federal disaster declarions, including natural disaters and terriost attacks.

We understand that disasters are often compounded by a lack of community preparedness and a disorganization of valuable resources. Much of the devastion associated with disaster situations can be dramatically reduced through greater public awareness, organizational collaboration and effective community involvement. Our highly skilled, trained members are vital resources that address these imporatant challenges.

ERT members focus on both critical life safety needs in a disaster and on meeting recovery needs. Members are on-call 24-7, and can be deployed for up to six weeks at a time.

ERT members are trained in safety and preparedness, as well as in CPR and First Aid.

Joining AmeriCorps ERT can be a rewarding experience for you and the community.
